Working Odd Hours

A marriage life can be very difficult when you are working odd hours; such as work third shift, long hours etc... Where you hardly get to see your love ones, in my case I don't get to see my wife often enough so it has been hard on our relationship. My wife wants be to be there when she needs me like any other women or loving partner. As of late I have been working third shift, it has effected my marriage; at time it has been rough during these past few months. I never thought my life would be like this...especially when your life have just begin with a newly marriage life with someone you love very much. As of recent my supervisor had informed me that I will be supporting night shift (third shift) til the end of the year. One of the reason because I decided not to go to Ireland to support a customer. The person on third shift went to support so someone needed to cover his shift. Since I didn't go I had to cover for the mean time. Our company has junior field service engineering but my boss said they are not as technical as me so he placed me there until the night shift coworker returns.

In my humble opinion, working such a schedule like this can affect your marriage. Some people and coworkers that I've spoken to feels different about it but it has put a tolled on my relationship with my wife.  So I believe it to be true.

Have something similar to this has affected your relationships?

I'm really sorry to hear that your relationship is already strained. I hope things do get better for the both of you. I've been lucky so far that my husband and I work very similar hours, or that he can work from home. Sometimes, I'm the one with the crazy hours and he's waiting for me, but then he enjoys his time to himself. Wishing you lots of love.---WW
