Chicken Coop

From the time when I got divorce, I wanted to live out my life and do the things I love that I did not get the chance to do during my marriage.  I had mention in one of my earlier blog, that I purchased a new home in 2011 with 7.8 acres a year ago.  It’s has always been a dream of mine to own a place so that I could raise my own chickens without anyone complaining about the chickens.  I’ve waited for over 7 months, and it couldn’t be any better timing then now.  Because I’m so happy to be alive and living the dream.  I like to thank my love ones and those people around me, encouraging me, to be who I am, stay humble, and things will be alright.

Stage one…
A few weeks back, on a Saturday evening, while I was watching the weather news the forecast was sunny and lite clouds. On the following day, I got up bright in early to head over to Lowe to purchase the lumber and supplies to build my chicken coop.  Prior building my chicken coop a few months back when I purchased my land I had scratch up some drawing of what I needed to do. So I knew what I needed to do.

Stage two…
Planning the structure of the chicken coop; I knew that living in the northwest I needed the chicken coop to be a little weather resist to the rain. In order to prevent wood damage I would need to purchase treated wood to make my chicken coop last a little longer. Since treat wood is twice as much then non-treated wood so I opt to purchase some treated and some non-treated.  I’m keeping in mind that wood in contact with the ground would get faster rot because of the damp ground.

Stage three…
So my structure, in contact with the ground should be treated wood. From there I started building the frame with treated wood on the ground and non-treated wood on top. After the frame was built, I installed the wire fence for chicken on the chicken coop.  I pre-installed the roofing to see how it would fit.

Stage four…
After I completed the wire fence I installed the roofing.  The roofing is constructed of plastic materials which will help prevent rot and longer life to my coop. The last thing was build my door for the coop.
Stage five...
The last stage is to paint it, when the weather permits and getting my chickens.
